Inside Text

This Collection of 29 songs represents the recording career of Dave Edmunds from the beginning in ’68, to the end of his recording contract with EMI, four years later.  Lovin’ side one featured four tracks included on his second album, “Forms and Feelings” by Love Sculpture trio, issued in February ’70 on the Parlophone label, augmented by the very first single, “River to Another Day” / “Brand New Woman” (issued two years earlier), and the B-side of “Sabre Dance”, “Think Of Love”, issued in November ’68.  The edited single version of “Sabre Dance” is included here.  The first two sides are not in chronological recording order, due to the preference to put together the original singles and to begin with Love Sculpture’s most well-known song, the immortal and classical “Sabre Dance”.  “Farandole” may be a little disconcerting after “Sabre Dance”, but it has been written by a French composer, so… Lovin’ side two features seven tracks from the eleven included on the first album.  “Blues Helping”, issued in October ’68 (Parlophone), recorded by Love Sculpture’s Dave, John Williams and Robert Jones.

Rockin’ sides three and four include the complete “rockpile” LP, issued in June ’72 on the Regal Zonophone label, augmented by the B-side of “I Hear You Knockin”, “Black Bill”, issued in December ’70, and by the second and third Edmunds singles: “I’m Comin” Home” / “Country Roll” and “Blue Mondey” / “I’ll Get Along”, both issued in ’71.

2.5 - On The Road Again

Well I'm so tired of cryin' but I'm out on the road again - I'm on the road again.
Well I'm so tired of cryin' but I'm out on the road again - I'm on the road again.
I ain't got no woman just to call my special friend.

And I'm going to leave the city, got to go away.
I'm going to leave the city, got to go away.
All this fussing and fighting, man I sure can't stay.

You know the first time I travelled out in the rain and snow - in the rain and snow.
You know the first time I travelled out in the rain and snow - in the rain and snow.
I didn't have no fellow(??) not even no place to go.

And my dear mother left me when I was quite young - when I was quite young.
And my dear mother left me when I was quite young - when I was quite young.
She said "Lord have mercy on my wicked son."

--- Break ---

Take it here from me (?) mama please don't you cry no more - don't you cry no more.
Take it here from me (?) mama please don't you cry no more - don't you cry no more.
Cause it's soon one morning down the road I'm gone.

But I ain't going down that long and lonesome road - all by myself.
But I ain't going down that long and lonesome road - all by myself.
I can't carry you baby, gonna carry somebody else.

3.2 - I Hear You Knocking

You went away and left me long time ago
And now you're knocking on my door

I hear you knocking
But you can't come in
I hear you knocking
Go back where you've been

I begged you not to go but you said goodbye
And now you're telling me all your lies

I hear you knocking
But you can't come in
I hear you knocking
Go back where you've been

Ahhh yeah
Let me hear it
Ohhooo woo
OOhh

You better get to your use-to-be
'Cause your kind of love ain't good to me

I hear you knocking
But you can't come in
I hear you knocking
Go back where you've been

I told you way back in 52
That I would never go with you

I hear you knocking
But you can't come in
I hear you knocking
Go back where you've been

Yeah
Awwhoooo
